It is exceedingly unfortunate that this sentence exists in the Media in a legitimate publication.

Hispanic groups and illegal immigrants sued in federal court to overturn the measures, saying they usurp the federal government's exclusive power to regulate immigration, deprive residents of their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process, and violate state and federal housing law.
I've highlighted two things there. First, how on earth is it possible that an illegal immigrant can sue in federal court without being summarily deported? Second, since when are residents protected in the constitution, rather than citizens?

And, of course, the AP smear machine must bend the news to its political agenda:
[The measure] was pushed by Hazleton's Republican mayor last summer after two illegal immigrants were charged in a fatal shooting.
All part of the plan to discredit Republicans in the eyes of hispanic voters.
